Why SureSight Is Different. (Our Backstory)

Let me tell you a bit about my background and how I developed SureSight.  I’m a veteran of an Israel Defense Forces combat unit. I served in Israel’s first, oldest and most decorated combat unit, the Golani Brigade.

After my service, I trained with some members of Israel’s special police unit, called YAMAM. This unit is widely considered one of best counter terrorism/hostage rescue teams in the world.

This was back in the 1990s.  At that time, I was struck by how differently Israeli combat units trained relative to private civilian and police instructors here in the USA.

In Israel, there was very much a target-focused approach to shooting handguns.  The idea being that 1) you need to constantly see and evaluate the threat, and 2) in a fight for your life, the odds are high that you’ll be involuntarily focused on the threat.  This was very much in contrast to a hard front sight focus touted by most US instructors at the time.

I didn’t intend on inventing a new sight.  I just wanted something for my defensive pistols that I felt more confident using.  I just wanted to buy something that worked for me.

The trouble was, it was hard to see regular iron sights clearly when my eyes were intensely focused on the target.  Especially the front sight, which is by far most important for getting hits on a man-sized target out to 5-7 yards.

I tried every iron sight configuration I could find. I found them all lacking.  My goal was simply to get a super-fast, super easy-to-see sight on my gun.  A sight that I could be very confident in seeing and aligning on a near threat, say out to 5-15 yards.  Reasonable self-defense distances.  Of course I could do this with existing sights, but I wasn’t happy with their visibility and ease of use under stress.

Based on my training and experience, I started to design some alternate sight pictures.

I tried to integrate my own experiences, the philosophy and experiences of the YAMAM fighters I trained with and the human stress response.

I tried to be as objective as possible. Which meant a design that is as compatible as possible with our inborn human abilities. Especially abilities that remain available to us during the fight or flight reflex.

To that end, I did a lot of research on brain function, combat stress, vision, cognitive psychology and shape & object recognition.  I came up with dozens of potential designs.  Each one involved a trip to the range along with some experienced shooters.  Eventually I landed on a triangle.

To make sure my ideas were grounded in real science, I paid to consult with Dr. Irving Biederman.  At the time, (and even now, after his death), Dr. Biederman is considered a leader in shape and object recognition.

Dr. Biederman helped validate my design. He also helped me design a controlled scientific study.  The results showed that the majority of shooters, regardless of skill level, were either faster, more accurate, or both when using SureSight.

I spoke with/interviewed/shot with veteran elite soldiers, SWAT officers, police training officers, private firearms instructors and even a grandmaster USPSA shooter.  Many of them were skeptical. Until they tried it.  Most of the time, they became convinced once they tried SureSight.

More recently, I set about updating and improving SureSight.  I went through over 40 different variations.  Tens of thousands of dollars were spent on research, development, engineering, prototyping and testing.  Thousands and thousands of rounds were sent down range, testing different variations.

I spent a lot of time, energy and money making SureSight even better.

In my not-so-objective opinion, I believe SureSight is the most dependable, intuitive and maintenance-free self-defense sight in the world.  Most of those who’ve tried it agree.

After 2+ years of work, this new version is better in every way. In fact, it is different enough from the first version to merit its own separate patent-pending status.

You can count on SureSight to make it easier for you to see your sights, even when focused on the target.

SureSight is the first and possibly only science-based iron handgun sight developed to use your brain’s inborn ability to help you aim.  Even under stress.  Even if your eyes are involuntarily focused on the target.

Every aspect of SureSight has been painstakingly designed with the input of both shooters and science.

The precise, advanced manufacturing process of the steel bases was carefully selected.  SureSight is constructed with stainless steel sight bases and polymer inserts.

The premium polymer we use was carefully selected for its resistance to solvents, heat, shock and overall durability.

The black nitride steel finish was selected for its durability, rust resistance and long life.

The color of the polymer inserts was also meticulously researched and painstakingly selected.  We use a fluorescent yellow-green.  The specific color used offers the best combination of day and low-light visibility for the human eye for most people.

There is a single tritium vial in the front sight, allowing you to see your sight even in complete darkness.

There is truly nothing quite like these sights on the market.  If you started from scratch and built yourself a set of these sights, it would cost you many thousands of dollars of time, R&D, ammo for testing, etc.

There is truly nothing quite like these sights on the market.  If you started from scratch and built yourself a set of these sights, it would cost you many thousands of dollars.  In fact, between the injection molding, the engineering, the machining, the tritium and the assembly, it would cost you many thousands just to make a copy of these existing sights.  Yet your entire fee is much less.

Plus, when you buy our sights, you’ll receive world class customer service, a lifetime quality guarantee and a full 30-day money back guarantee.
